along the lines of: No matter what happens you are guaranteed until you die:
1) A very high level of free preventive health care and daily access to nutritious food.
2) Free almost unlimited education.
3) A livable wage and job as long as you can work and a pension aftewards.
4) Workmen’s comp, family leave.
5) A clean and technologically advanced living space with clean air, free internet accesss for all, lots of green space and safe places to raise your children.
6) A bunch of other basic human rights like you can marry and have sex with any consulting adult you want, travel where you want and can’t be harmed by other humans, yada, yada. You know, basic human decency. When is the last time one of you has really ever gone in and stopped 2 gays neighbors from adopting a child or interrrupt their marriage ceromony? Almost nobody would do things like that to someone they know so why put stuff like that into law?
We should take these things as seriously as we take brushing our teeth. They are the foundation of how we value ourselves as human beings. If you think they are crazy or unreasonable, consider that our state prisoners get most of these things but we don’t. No matter what we should never let any up and downs of a free market (which I support) jeopardize these guarantees. Then we can’t gamble with things that cause people to be talked into going to war and generally get very desperate. A more educated, well fed, happy population can invent better free market economies that won’t crash as often as has happened in history.
Imagine with me waking up and being 100% confident that these things were true for you, your family, and your loved ones. If we just took these things out of the equation, can you imagine what new problems we humans could find the time and energy to tackle? Don’t tell me it’s utopia because it’s not, it’s a practical foundation we can build.
